PLEASANTON, Calif. (Aug. 11, 2015) – An expanded catalog led to jumps in gross sales and median price at Tuesday’s 2015 Northern California Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

The average sale price of $11,537 compared to the record of $12,556 set last year, while gross sales leaped to $1,349,800 for 117 sold compared to $1,054,700 for 84 sold last year. The median of $7,000 easily topped last year’s $5,000.

The sale topper, a son of Idiot Proof, sold for $72,000. The colt is out of the Smart Strike mare Reine des Neiges, was bred by Timothy O’Leary, was consigned by Woodbridge Farm, Agent, and purchased by John Brocklebank, Agent, for Dickman Legacy Ranch. The price was only $3,000 less than the sale record set last year by a son of Forestry.

The second-highest priced sale, and the top-priced filly, went for $57,000 to trainer Jeff Bonde. She is by Kafwain, out of Unbridled mare Fasahah, and is a half-sister to the stakes winner Show Me Your Glory. She was bred by Dar Hanson and Cheryl Bigon.

The top consignor for the sale was Woodbridge Farm, with 19 horses sold for $309,400. The top buyer was John Brocklebank, Agent, for Dickman Legacy Ranch, who purchased five for $158,000.

Tuesday’s sale was the 12th presented in Northern California by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association in its current format.

There were 40 buybacks and 19 outs.
