ALBANY, Calif. (Nov. 27, 2021) – Freeport Joe wore down fellow Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Camino Del Paraiso in late stretch to win Saturday’s $100,900 Grade III Berkeley Handicap at Golden Gate.
Freeport Joe is by English Channel, out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Winds of March, was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises, is owned by Larry Odbert and trained by Gloria Haley.
The $2,000 purchase at the Northern California Yearling Sale has four wins in 12 starts, earnings of $141,056 and was coming off a Nov. 7 allowance win.
Freeport Joe ran the 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:43.70 and was the second-longest shot in the field of seven at 10-1 and won by one length over the favored Camino Del Paraiso.
