NTRA, Dean Dorton Tax Webinar Feb. 21

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2019) — Dean Dorton, one of the largest CPA firms based in Kentucky and supporting partner of the 48th Annual Eclipse Awards, is teaming with the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) to host a webinar February 21 focusing on key federal tax reform items for horse and farm owners.

“The NTRA is pleased to collaborate with Dean Dorton to offer this special tax webinar for the horse racing and breeding industry,” said Alex Waldrop, President and CEO of the NTRA. “Last year’s sweeping federal tax reform legislation was the first of its kind in more than 30 years and is full of changes best explained by the experienced equine tax accountants at Dean Dorton.”

Among the topics slated to be covered during the webinar include:

  • Positive tax reforms related to federal accelerated expensing of asset purchases
  • Tax measures that remain status quo
  • Changes that require a cautionary approach from taxpayers

Guest speaker will be Jen Shah, CPA, Director of Tax Services and Equine Team Leader Dean Dorton CPAs and Business Advisors.

Jen began her public accounting career at a Big 4 accounting firm, where she specialized in individual international tax matters. Jen joined Dean Dorton in 2003 and advises business and individual clients on tax and general business consulting matters. She has worked with a variety of clients in many different industries, but spends much of her time working with high net worth individuals and related entities including businesses, trusts, and foundations.

Jen currently leads the firm’s equine practice. In addition to working extensively with participants in the equine industry, she advises clients on general international tax matters.

Outside of assisting clients, Jen is a frequent speaker on tax matters, most recently speaking at the National Thoroughbred Owner Conference, Saratoga Institute on Equine, Racing, & Gaming Law Conference, and Consignors and Commercial Breeders Association Symposium among other industry events. She currently serves as the treasurer of Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and is a finance committee member of Horse Country, Inc. in addition to other industry involvement.
