ARCADIA, Calif. (Mar. 30, 2013) – Omega Star outdueled a game Fighting Hussar through the stretch for a nose win in Saturday’s $200,000 Echo Eddie Stakes for 3-year-olds eligible to the Golden State Series at Santa Anita.

Omega Star is by Candy Ride, out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Pride of Pegasus, was bred by owners Herman Sarkowsky and Marty Wygod and is trained by John Shirreffs.

He has two wins in five starts, earnings of $223,250 and was coming off a seventh in the Mar. 9 San Felipe.

Omega Star ran the 6 ½ furlongs in 1:17.19 at odds of 9-5 and won by a nose over Fighting Hussar, with 99-1 shot Lovmeister third.

“He got in front and started to pull himself up, so I didn’t hit him, I just hand rode and he gave me everything he had,” said jockey Joe Talamo.
