RUIDOSO, N.M. (May 31, 2016) – Lone California-bred Popalicious lifted jockey Ruby Gonzalez to a four-win day at Ruidoso Downs on Monday when she fought for a neck victory over Sky Rant in the $50,000 First Lady Handicap. It was another neck back to Untraveled in third.
Popalicious is a daughter of Ministers Wild Cat. She was bred in California by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds.
Popalicious ($9.40) was always prominent, racing with the leaders through fractions of 23.06 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.16 for the half-mile. She covered six furlongs in the race for fillies and mares in 1:12.34.
Popalicious races for the partnership of Solitaire Stable, Skyler Kelley, Allen Aldrich, and Tom Mansor. She is trained by Henry Dominguez.
Gonzalez’s other winners came in a dead heat in the fifth with Your Miss ($3.80), in the sixth with R C Dillinger ($10.80), and the seventh with Thrifty Lad ($12.80).
