Slow Down Andy on Comeback Trail

ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 8, 2023) — California-bred Slow Down Andy, who missed the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita this fall because of a swollen ankle, is scheduled to return to trainer Doug O’Neill’s stable this weekend after a rest at breeders/owners Paul and Zillah Reddam’s Southern California farm.

Slow Down Andy is expected to race at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting in early 2024.

“We’re excited to have him back for Santa Anita,” O’Neill said.

Bred by the Reddams, Slow Down Andy was under consideration for the Breeders’ Cup Classic when the injury was diagnosed. A 4-year-old, Slow Down Andy earned a fees-paid berth to the BC Classic with a win in the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 30.

Slow Down Andy has won 5 of 14 starts and earned $1,276,600. The $302,000 Awesome Again Stakes was his fourth stakes win and first in a Grade 1.
