Smoove It in Las Cienegas

ARCADIA, Calif. (Apr. 7, 2016) – Stakes winners Smoove It and Velvet Mesquite and fellow California-bred Tale of Papa Nick are entered in Sunday’s $100,000 Grade III Las Cienegas Stakes for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.

Smoove It is by Square Eddie, out of the Distorted Humor mare Smoove, was bred by owner Reddam Racing and is trained by Doug O’Neill. She has five wins in 23 starts, earnings of $338,575 and is coming off a win in the Mar. 19 Irish O’Brien.

Velvet Mesquite is by In Excess, out of the Huddle Up mare Mesquite, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Blake Heap. She has six wins in 20 starts, earnings of $453,446 and is coming off a second in the Mar. 19 Irish O’Brien.

Tale of Papa Nick is by Papa Clem, out of the Tale of the Cat mare Our Hualalai, was bred by owner Nick Carfarchia and is trained by Richard Baltas. She has three wins in nine starts, earnings of $135,962 and is coming off a Feb. 11 allowance win.
