ARCADIA, Calif. (April 6, 2019)–Ridden confidently by Drayden Van Dyke, heavily favored Sneaking Out romped to an emphatic 2 ½ length win in Saturday’s $200,000 Evening Jewel Stakes. Owned and bred by KMN Racing, the California-bred 3-year-old daughter of Indian Evening got 6 ½ furlongs geared down in 1:18.07.
Sponsored by the CTBA, the Evening Jewel Stakes is part of the lucrative Golden State Series for California-bred or sired horses.
Breaking from post position six in a field of nine sophomores fillies, Sneaking Out made the lead out of the gate, but was soon content to sit a measured third, just off of Violette Szabo and Naughty Tiger heading to the five furlong pole. Around the turn, it was obvious Van Dyke had the leaders measured and with a sweeping move, took command while three-deep at the quarter pole.
A sharp 2 ½ length first condition allowance winner going 5 ½ furlongs at Golden Gate Fields March 22, Sneaking Out was off at 1-2 and paid $3.00, $2.40 and $2.20.
Out of the Kitten’s Joy mare Maddie’s Odyssey, Sneaking Out picked up $110,000 for the win, catapulting her earnings to $182,180. In her first stakes appearance, she improved her career resume to 4-3-1-0.
Ridden by Flavien Prat, Dr Wysong had two fillies beaten turning for home, but rallied at the rail to be a clear second, finishing 2 ¼ lengths in front of Ruby Bradley. Off at 5-1, Dr Wysong paid $4.00 and $3.20.
A 50-1 longshot with Aaron Gryder up, Ruby Bradley gamely held third money by a nose over Violette Szabo and paid $9.20 to show.
Fractions on the race were 21.96, 45.29 and 1:10.85.
