ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2021) — Brickyard Ride, a multiple stakes winner and quickest sprinter in California, has been turned out after a tough-luck summer at Del Mar. Trainer Craig Lewis and owner-breeder Alfred Pais opted to end his campaign after the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien on Aug. 28 at Del Mar.
Brickyard Ride broke through the gate, ran off before the start, then finished ninth in the Pat O’Brien. In his previous start in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby, he broke slowly, rushed to the lead, and finished fifth.
Brickyard Ride won three stakes this year at Santa Anita, including the Grade 2 San Carlos and a pair of statebred stakes. Brickyard Ride, who can blaze his first quarter in 21 and change and first half in 44 seconds, has won eight races and $470,977 from 18 starts. He won 3 of 7 this year, and set the pace in each start.

Lewis said Brickyard Ride passed a physical evaluation prior to being turned out.
“We took blood on him, we went over him with a fine-tooth comb,” Lewis said. “There’s nothing wrong with him. He’s fine, we just thought we should give him a breather.”
Brickyard Ride, a 4-year-old by Clubhouse Ride, will be freshened at Kingfisher Farms in Solvang, Calif. Lewis said Brickyard Ride would return to his Santa Anita stable later this year to prepare for a 2022 campaign.
