DEL MAR, Calif. (July 27, 2013) – With odds-on favorite Doinghardtimeagain not firing, Sweet Marini drew off to win Saturday’s $200,000 Fleet Treat Stakes for 3-year-old fillies eligible for the Golden State Series at Del Mar.

Sweet Marini is by Marino Marini, out of the In Excess mare Excessing, was bred by BMWZ Stables, is owned by Kaleem Shah and trained by Bob Baffert.

She has three wins in five starts, earnings of $230,560 and was coming off a May 26 allowance win. She ran the seven furlongs in 1:22.25 and won by six lengths as the 6-5 second choice. Qiaona was second and Warren’s Veneda third in the field of five. Doinghardtimeagain was fourth.

“The key for me today was that she relaxed early. I got the kind of pace I was very happy with; not too fast at all. When I asked her, she just went. A good race for her. She’s a good filly.” Martin Garcia, winning rider.

“We bought this filly earlier in the year hoping for something like this. Obviously she really likes this suface and my gosh she ran a big race. I really thought we weren’t going to be able to beat (Doinghardtimeagain). I thought she would run away from us.” Bob Baffert, winning trainer.
