Swiss Lake Yodeler Gives Hollendorfer a Record

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Dec. 21, 2013) — Odds-on favorite Swiss Lake Yodeler rallied gamely in the final sixteenth of a mile to capture Saturday’s $200,000 Soviet Problem Stakes for Golden State Series eligible 2-year-old fillies at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Swiss Lake Yodeler is by Swiss Yodeler, out of the Meadowlake mare Domasco Lake, was bred by owners Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams and is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, whose seventh stakes win broke Charlie Whittingham’s Fall Meet track record.

“(Whittingham) has been an idol of mine from the very beginning,’’ said Hollendorfer. “When I came on the racetrack, everybody in the world knew his name. I’m pleased to break any kind of record he ever held. I’m very humble and grateful. Considering this is the end (of Hollywood Park) makes me sad, but I’ve had a lot of good luck here and won a lot races. I’m going to be sorry to see Hollywood Park go.

“I think (Swiss Lake Yodeler) wants more ground. I wasn’t sure she was going to get there, but she kicked it in late. (jockey Rafael Bejarano) just has a magical way of getting the job done. Seven furlongs might have been a little short for her.’’

Swiss Lake Yodeler has three wins in four starts, earnings of $235,600 and was coming off a win in the Nov. 1 Golden State Juvenile Fillies. She ran the seven furlongs in 1:23.90 and won by 1 ½ lengths ahead of Rovenna, with Sprouts third in a field of nine after the morning scratch of Global Hottie.
