The Chosen Vron Back in with Cal-breds

DEL MAR, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2023) — The Chosen Vron will be dropping in class just a wee bit next Saturday at Del Mar.

Two weeks after he finished fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, The Chosen Vron will wheel back to face California-breds in the $100,000 Cary Grant Stakes on Nov. 18. “He’s doing great, I’m going to come back in two weeks,” trainer Eric Kruljac said Sunday.

The Chosen Vron is virtually certain to be favored in the seven-furlong Cary Grant as he tries to begin a new win streak. Prior to his Breeders’ Cup fifth, the 5-year-old gelding won eight straight stakes including the Grade 1 Bing Crosby at Del Mar. He met his match in the BC Sprint, finishing 5 1/4 lengths behind winner Elite Power.

“Those East Coast horses might have been a notch above anything that he’s run against,” Kruljac acknowledged. “For once, (The Chosen Vron) was kind of dumbfounded. He wasn’t himself.”

Kruljac said The Chosen Vron bounced out of the BC Sprint in top shape, he resumed training at Santa Anita, and Kruljac looks forward to an easier class level. “He’s going to the track and feeling good,” the trainer said.

The Chosen Vron has won 13 races and $1,092,678 from 18 starts. Other stakes winners nominated to the Cary Grant include Big City Lights, Fast Draw Munnings and None Above the Law.
