ARCADIA, Calif. (Mar. 16, 2014) — A Tribal Rule one-two finish in Santa Anita’s Irish O’Brien Stakes and Joy Boy’s two-turn allowance win at Oaklawn Park propelled Tribal Rule’s 2014 progeny earnings to $1,035,189 by the end of the day and a $276,418 lead on California’s General Sire list.

Tribal Spy became Tribal Rule’s 36 stakes winner when she broke smartly and led gate-to-wire in the $100,000 Irish O’Brien Stakes covering the hillside course of about 6 ½ furlongs in 1:12.59 while defeating Tribal Rule’s Grade 2 winner Ciao Bella Luna who closed bravely from last after “missing” the break. With her first stakes victory and fifth career win, Tribal Spy increased her earnings to $238,610.

Trained by Adam Kitchingman for Triple B Farms owner Paul Boghossian, Tribal Spy was bred by Gary Barber and is the first foal from the Victory Gallop allowance winner Victory Spy.

Tribal Rule’s 5-year-old Joy Boy handled the wet fast surface in Arkansas with ease, controlling the pace throughout the 1 1/16 miles to collect the $37,200 winner’s share of the purse for TK Stables and raise his earnings to nearly $300,000. The multiple stakes-placed winner out of the Half Term mare Joyously, was bred by Dr. and Mrs. William T. Gray.
