DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 21, 2019) — Two Thirty Five, a Kentucky-bred son of California stallion Stay Thirsty, hit the front in the last stride to nose out Leading Score and win the featured $89,201 Harry F. Brubaker Stakes Wednesday at Del Mar.
With talented Del Mar newcomer Abel Cedillo in the saddle, Two Thirty Five, sent to the gate at 6-1, won by a nose over Leading Score, who was piloted by Martin Garcia at 9-2. Line Judge, the 9-5 favorite, was third, a length and one-quarter behind the runner-up and two and one-half lengths in front of Isotherm in the field of six older runners.
Two Thirty Five, continuing the hot streak of trainer Richard Baltas, who won four races on Pacific Classic Day last Saturday, ran the mile on turf in 1:37.51 and returned $14.80, $6.40 and $3.40 while earning first money of $53,310 with his fifth win in 18 starts.
Two Thirty Five, a five-year-old son of Stay Thirsty, is owned by Baltas, Tom Mansor, Tammi Nielsen and Kim Rasmussen.
Leading Score paid $5.20 and $3.20, while Line Judge returned $2.60 to show.
Flavien Prat embellished his lead in the jockey standings by booting home four winners – Beyond Pleasure, $5.60, in the second; Mind Out, $5.20, in the third; Murad Khan, $6.60, in the fifth, and Nucky, $3 in the eighth race nightcap. He leads second-place Drayden Van Dyke, 31-20.
