Velvet Mesquite in Ken S. Maddy

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 22, 2015) – Stakes winner Velvet Mesquite and fellow California-bred Chati’s On Top and Velvet Mesquite are entered in Sunday’s $100,000 Grade III Senator Ken S. Maddy Stakes for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.
Chati’s On Top is by Old Topper, out of the Globalize mare Chati Valley, was bred by Bill Delia, H.C. Martin and Ray Pagano, is owned by Little Red Feather Racing and Marsha Naify and is trained by Mike Puype. She has four wins in 15 starts, earnings of $294,728 and is coming off a win in the Aug. 16 Solana Beach.
Velvet Mesquite is by In Excess, out of the Huddle Up mare Mesquite, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Blake Heap, She has five wins in 15 starts, earnings of $307,856 and is coming off a fifth in the Oct. 4 California Distaff. She was second in this race last year.
