Warrens Candy Girl Leads Cal-bred Quartet

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2023) – Stakes winner Warrens Candy Girl is one of four California-breds among entries in Saturday’s $100,000 Astra Stakes for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.

Warrens Candy Girl is by Clubhouse Ride, out of the Affirmative mare Warrens Jitterbug, was bred by owners Benjamin and Sally Warren and is trained by Craig Lewis. She has four wins in 19 starts, earnings of $347,160 and is coming off a fifth in the Dec. 31 Robert J. Frankel.

Almost a Factor is by The Factor, out of the Tiznow mare Tizn’t Caught, was bred by Harris Farms, is owned by Harris Farms & Gary Parker and trained by Carla Gaines. She has two wins in 17 starts, earnings of $138,832 and is coming off a sixth in a Dec. 26 allowance.

Barrister’s Ride is by Clubhouse Ride, out of the Unusual Heat mare Q T Shea, was bred by Mark Devereaux & Scomar Enterprises, is owned by Devereaux and Scott Gross and is trained by Carla Gaines. She has two wins in 11 starts, earnings of $155,404 and is coming off a third in a Dec. 26 allowance.

New Heat is by Unusual Heat, out of the Touch Gold mare Helluva Hooley, was bred by Liberty Road Stables, is owned by Newfield Farm & Jennifer Saavedra and is trained by Anthony Saavedra. She has three wins in 18 starts, earnings of $198,852 and is coming off an eighth in the Dec. 31 Robert J. Frankel.
