$300,000 Melair Stakes WILLA B AWESOME

(Apr. 28, 2012) – Grade I winner Willa B Awesome, hooked in a stretch-long duel with Starry Skies, got the bob on the wire to win by a nose Saturday’s $300,000 Melair Stakes for California-bred 3-year-old fillies on the Gold Rush XIII card at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Willa B Awesome is by Awesome Gambler, out of the Nineeleven mare Cause I’m Tricky, was bred by Terry Lovingier, is owned by Daniels, London, Winters and Lovingier, is trained by Walther Solis and was ridden by Martin Pedroza.

The $18,000 Barretts purchase, who bypassed the Kentucky Oaks for this race, has five wins in 13 starts, earnings of $593,896 and was coming off a win in the Mar. 31 Santa Anita Oaks.

Willa B Awesome was the even-money favorite and ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:53.33. Starry Skies was second and Starlight Magic third.
