Alice Marble’s Class Shows in Camilla Urso

ALBANY, Calif. (Apr. 29, 2023) – Classy California-bred Alice Marble rallied with a rush to nail Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Chancery Way at the wire to win Saturday’s $75,000 Camilla Urso Stakes for fillies and mares at Golden Gate.

Alice Marble is by Grazen, out of the More Than Ready mare Unsung Heroine, was bred by owner Nick Alexander and is trained by Phil D’Amato. She has eight wins in 16 starts, earnings of $515,880 and was coming off a win in the Mar. 17 Irish O’Brien.

“It was the first time I’ve been on her, and it was an absolute pleasure,” said jockey Umberto Rispoli. “I think, for her, she prefers six, six and a half [furlongs]. I feel that she was gearing up at the top of the stretch and when I put her into the clear, she did the rest.”

She ran the five furlongs in :56.59 and won by a head as the 6-5 favorite in the field of eight.
