LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 10, 2023) – A pair of California-breds brought six-figure purchase prices in Friday’s session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
The stakes-producing broodmare Black Valentine sold for $180,000 to St. Venturea, in foal to Justify. Out of the Mulholland Springs consignment, the 14-year-old Black Valentine is by Cindago and out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Jewel of the night, making her a half-sister to millionaire Cal-bred Evening Jewel. Black Valentine produced stakes winner Roo’s Valentine, and the stakes-placed Dr. Troutman and Sweetest Angel.
A weanling filly by Maclean’s Music sold for $100,000 to Gayle Van Leer, agent. The weanling, from the Checkmate Thoroughbreds consignment, is out of the stakes-placed Ghostzapper mare Fujairah. She was bred by Glen Hill Farm and is from the family of the stallion Bodemeister.
