Loaded Field for Sunday’s Betty Grable

DEL MAR, Calif. (Nov. 9, 2023) – Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Chancery Way and fellow multiple stakes winner Chismosa are among the entries in Sunday’s $100,000 Betty Grable Stakes for Golden State Series-eligible fillies and mares at Del Mar.

Chancery Way is by Mr. Big, out of the War Chant mare This Means War, was bred by Harris Farms and John Nicoletti, is owned by Andy Smolich and Rob Smolich and is trained by Jamey Thomas. The $6,500 purchase at the Northern California Yearling Sale out of the Harris Farms consignment has five wins in 10 starts, earnings of $213,770 and is coming off a third in the Aug. 25 Solana Beach.

Bella D is by Decarchy, out of the Good Journey mare Bella Viaggia, was bred by SLO Racing Stable, is owned by Out of the Blue Stables and is trained by Carla Gaines. She has three wins in 22 starts, earnings of $213,110 and is coming off a sixth in an Oct. 6 optional claimer.

Glorious Spring is by Grazen, out of the Candy Ride mare Maziette, was bred by owner Harris Farms and is trained by Dan Blacker. She has three wins in 10 starts, earnings of $158,080 and is coming off a fourth in the Oct. 15 Bull Dog Stakes.

Stakes winner Power Surge is by Straight Fire, out of the Thunder Gulch mare Strikes of Thunder, was bred by Straight Fire, LLC, is owned by Jay Em Ess Stable and trained by Brian Koriner. She has two wins in seven starts, earnings of $153,786 and is coming off a second in a July 28 optional claimer.

Smoothlikebuttah is by Mr. Big, out of the Five Star Day mare Eight Daughters, was bred by NP Thoroughbreds, is owned by Robert Bach and William Tessar and is trained by Steve Knapp. She has three wins in 45 starts, earnings of $456,936 and is coming off a fourth in an Oct. 28 optional claimer.
