Cal-bred Quartet Revs Up for Daytona

ARCADIA, Calif. (May 24, 2023) – Multiple stakes winner Indian Peak and fellow California-breds Lovesick Blues, Fast Buck and Burnin Turf are entered in Saturday’s $100,000 Grade III Daytona Stakes at Santa Anita.

Indian Peak is by Comic Strip, out of the Roar mare Ms. Roar, was bred by Dr. & Mrs. William Gray, is owned by Wachtel Stable and Gary Barber and trained by Peter Miller. He has six wins in 30 starts, earnings of $455,122 and is coming off a third in the Apr. 23 Siren Lure.

Lovesick Blues is by Grazen, out of the Ministers Wild Cat mare Queenofhercastle, was bred by owner Nick Alexander and is trained by Steven Miyadi. He has seven wins in 22 starts, earnings of $281,462 and is coming off back-to-back wins.

Fast Buck is by Gallant Son, out of the Falstaff mare Zorra Roja, was bred by Daehling Ranch, is owned by Zephyr Racing, Peter Cruz and trainer Cesar DeAlba. He has four wins in eight starts, earnings of $215,474 and is coming off a May 7 optional claiming win.

Burnin Turf is by Acclamation, out of the Vronsky mare Hot Outta the Oven, was bred by Old English Rancho, is owned by Next Wave Racing and the Ellwood Johnston Trust and is trained by Dan Blacker. He has five wins in 15 starts, earnings of $274,596 and is coming off a fourth in the April 23 Siren Lure. He was third in this race last year.

Also entered is Prince Lancelot, a stakes-winning British-bred son of California stallion Sir Prancealot making his U.S. debut.
