Cal-bred Trio in Surfer Girl

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2019) – California-breds Cholula Lips, Smiling Shirlee and Warren’s Showtime are entered in Sunday’s $100,000 Surfer Girl Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Santa Anita.

CTBA January Sale graduate Cholula Lips is by Empire Way, out of the Rio Verde mare Sweet Lips Pooh, was bred by Terry Lovingier, is owned by Lovingier or Navarro and is trained by Mike Harrington. The $3,700 purchase at the CTBA January Sale has one win in four starts, earnings of $88,250 and is coming off a second in the Aug. 28 Generous Portion Stakes.

Smiling Shirlee is by Smiling Tiger, out of the Grand Slam mare Whobetterthanus, was bred by Premier Thoroughbreds, is owned by Brown, Lebherz or Klein and is trained by Jeff Bonde. She has one win in two starts, earnings of $48,600 and is coming off a third in the Aug. 28 Generous Portion.

Warren’s Showtime is by Clubhouse Ride, out of the Affirmative mare Warren’s Veneda, was bred by Benjamin Warren, is owned by Benjamin and Sally Warren and is trained by Craig Lewis. She has one win in three starts, earnings of $44,271 and is coming off an eighth in the Sept. 2 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf.
