California Breeder Joe Daehling Passes

ELK GROVE, Calif. (Nov. 29, 2019) – Longtime California breeder and owner Joe Daehling, owner of Daehling Ranch in Elk Grove, passed away on Thursday. He was 82.

The German-born Daehling, who immigrated to the United States in 1960, bought the 400-acre ranch in 1973, originally for cattle.

He and his wife began boarding horses in the early 1980s and eventually horses replaced all of the cattle. Daehling stood the Alydar stallion Alymagic, whose best runner was Sing and Tell, a Daehling homebred born in 2009.

Daehling and trainer Holly Evans co-owned the Daehling-bred multiple stakes winner Fast and Foxy, who banked $514,030 on the track.

The ranch will continue operations under the management of Joe Daehling’s daughter, Julia. Current stallions at the ranch are Mesa Thunder, Coach Bob, City Wolf, Sierra Sunset, Gallant Son, Fullbridled, Jersey Town and Rumpus Cat.
