CHRB Issues Equine Shipping Advisory

Message from Dr. Jeff Blea and the CHRB

Attention horsemen: please read this important message from Dr. Jeff Blea and the CHRB:
 
Recently, there have been 15 new Vesicular Stomatitis Virus affected equine premises identified (4 confirmed positive, 11 suspect) in southern California.
 
Due to the threat of a potential outbreak, effective immediately, all horses shipping into San Luis Rey Downs, Los Alamitos, and Santa Anita Racetrack from within California, shall be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection with the following statement until further notice:
 
“I have examined all the animals identified on this certificate within 14 days of the shipment date and have found them to be free from signs of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV). During the last 14 days, these animals have not been exposed to VSV nor located on a VSV-confirmed or VSV-suspected premises.”
