Our Silver Oak in Barretts Juvenile

CYPRESS, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2018) – Our Silver Oak returns to the scene of his impressive first out victory in the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile Saturday at Los Alamitos, where he will faced fellow California-breds Kid Coil and Galilean in a field of six.

Scheduled for 6 ½ furlongs and restricted to 2-year-old colts or geldings offered for purchase at any Barretts sale, the Juvenile is the sixth of nine races. Post time Saturday is 2 p.m. Scheduled post time for the Juvenile is 4:28 p.m.

Los Alamitos will also offer as many as three seats to the 2019 National Thoroughbred Racing Association National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas with a live money contest Saturday.

The cost to enter the Los Alamitos Fall Qualifier is $400. Of that amount, $100 will be placed in the contest prize pool with the remaining funds going towards a live-money wagering card.

Contestants must enter prior to post time for the first race Sept. 15.  Players can begin entering the contest once track gates open at 9:30 a.m. that morning.

Tournament races will include the entire card at Los Alamitos with permitted wagers including win, place, show, exactas, trifectas and daily doubles beginning on races 1-7.

Each entry must bet at least $50 per race on six races during the contest to be eligible for prizes, but there is no wagering limit.

The player with the highest bankroll at the end of the day will be declared the winner and the player with the second highest bankroll will be the runner-up.

The winner will receive 50% of the prize pool, which will be capped at $10,000. The remaining payoffs: 20% (2nd place), 15% (3rd place), 7.5% (4th place) and 7.5% (most money wagered).

Three NHC berths will be up for grabs if the contest has more than 60 entrants. If less than 60, two NHC spots will be on the line.

Owned by Robert Jones, Michael Nentwig and Ray Pagano and trained by Bill Morey, Our Silver Oak scored a 33-1 surprise in his July 4 debut at Los Alamitos.

The son of Unusual Heat and the Alphabet Soup mare Strawberry Flash won by two lengths under jockey Stewart Elliott. He was bred by Madeline Auerbach.

A $33,000 purchase at the Barretts select sale in 2017, Our Silver Oak, who has earned $28,000, hasn’t been out since disappointing as the 8-5 favorite in the Graduation Stakes Aug. 4. He trailed after a slow start, finishing 10 lengths behind winner Tap the Wire.

He’s worked five times since and should benefit from the stretch to 6 ½ furlongs.

Seven Scents will cut back in distance for trainer Craig Lewis after breaking his maiden going one mile in his Los Alamitos debut Sept. 6.

Owned by Six-S Racing Stable and Shirley Barron, the gray son of Goldencents and the Broken Vow mare is 1-for-3 with earnings of $33,800. He was a $40,000 buy at the Barretts sale in April.

Big Impression, a first out winner against $40,000 maidens here July 15, will try to rebound after trailing when 22-1 in his first against winners Aug. 10.

Rafael Becerra trains the Lookin At Lucky colt for owner Craig Martin and Gregory Yamamoto . Out of the Bertrando mare Exquisite Beauty, the $20,000 purchase at the Barretts January sale in 2017, has banked $11,145.

My Mandate, a Strong Mandate ridgling out of the Imperialism mare Jan’s Perfect Star, was runner-up in his debut for Red Baron’s Barn LLC, Rancho Temescal LLC and trainer Mark Glatt. He picked up $12,000 Aug. 12 when chasing Spin Lightning, who returned to finish fifth in the Grade I Del Mar Futurity Sept. 3.

Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer will be represented by first time starter Galilean.

Owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and Denise Barker, the son of Uncle Mo and the El Prado mare Fresia was purchased for $600,000 in April. He is based at Los Alamitos and has worked well over the track, including a 1:11 3/5 move Sept. 14. He was bred by Bar C Racing Stables.

Kid Koil comes off a victory over $40,000 maidens going 5 ½ furlongs Sept. 6 in his first local appearance.

Trained by Adam Kitchingman for First Home Thoroughbreds, On Pointe Thoroughbreds and Pro Selection Stable, the Coil gelding out of the Beat Hollow mare Bonita Star is 1-for-4 with a bankroll of $18,580. He was bred by Richard Barton Enterprises.
