Past Champions Duel in Cal Cup Sprint

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2019) – Edwards Going Left and Richard’s Boy, the last two winners of the race, are entered in Saturday’s $150,000 California Cup Sprint Stakes for Golden State Series eligible at Santa Anita.

Edwards Going Left is by Midnight Lute, out of the Broken Vow mare Dypsy, was bred by Red Baron’s Barn & Vaya Con Suerte, is owned by Hronis Racing and is trained by John Sadler. He has seven wins in 16 starts, earnings of $493,390 and is coming off a second in the Nov. 18 Cary Grant. He won this race last year.

Minoso is by Council Member, out of the Olympio mare Bella Queen, was bred by owner Rich Fontana and is trained by Hector Palma. He has one win in 11 starts, earnings of $65,420 and is coming off a second in a Jan. 4 allowance.

Shades of Victory is by Thorn Song, out of the Street Sense mare Sensible Girl, was bred by C-Punch Ranch and is owned by trainer Reed Saldana. He has five wins in 21 starts, earnings of $144,019 and is coming off a ninth in a Dec. 26 allowance.

Richard’s Boy is by Idiot Proof, out of the Cee’s Tizzy mare Marissa’s Joy, was bred by Harold & Pamela Tillema, is owned by Rockingham Ranch and is trained by Peter Miller. He has nine wins in 35 starts, earnings of $947,355 and is coming off a second in a Dec. 14 allowance. He won this race in 2017 and was seventh in 2016.

Heck Yeah is by Acclamation, out of the Maria’s Mon mare Lutess, was bred by Michael Pageler, is owned by Pageler, Dr. Sigband or Baedecker and is trained by Bob Baffert. He has four wins in five starts, earnings of $308,000 and is making his first start since an April 7 win in the Echo Eddie. He won the Cal Cup Derby and Cal Cup Turf Stakes last year.

Touching Rainbows is by Aragorn, out of the Gold Case mare Violin Case, was bred by Esembee, is owned by Slam Dunk Racing, KM Racing or Madaket Stables and is trained by Phil D’Amato. He has six wins in 17 starts, earnings of $285,382 and is coming off a fourth in the Nov. 18 Cary Grant.
