Mirahmadi, 48, will continue his recovery at his New Jersey residence. It has not been determined when Mirahmadi will return to the Monmouth announcer’s booth, but he is eager to do so. Angelo Chinnici, the medical director at Monmouth who convinced Mirahmadi to go to the hospital and then was instrumental in getting him admitted, was already devising a plan last Saturday on how to get Mirahmadi to the press box without draining his energy. When asked by text whether he would return this weekend, Mirahmadi responded, “It’s like an inquiry. Picture the numbers on the board flashing. The proposal will be presented to the California Horse Racing Board for ratification at committee and board meetings in the coming days at Del Mar. No agreement has been reached on racing dates for the Northern California Thoroughbred circuit, with negotiations likely to continue for another month or two, several officials said. The racing board’s dates committee is scheduled to meet Monday to hear updates on proposed dates for both Thoroughbred circuits. The Southern California schedule from 2017 to 2019 is likely to look similar to the 2014 and 2015 seasons, the first two years of racing following the closure of Hollywood Park in late 2013, officials said. Diaz was the leading rider on the Northern California circuit during the 1970s, winning riding titles at Golden Gate Fields and Bay Meadows, and he became a trainer following his retirement. He rode 2,505 winners before his retirement in 2002 and trained 441 winners from 2,421 starters, including Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies runner Meadow Rendezvous. Diaz won a number of riding titles at both Golden Gate Fields and Bay Meadows while scoring 2,505 career wins before his retirement in 1992. His mounts earned more than $20 million. At Tuesday’s event at the Alameda county fairgrounds in Pleasanton, the sale will be more than double that size. There are 238 horses in the catalog, with a few supplemental hips expected. With a larger catalog comes higher expectations. Gross sales are expected to increase on Tuesday, according to Doug Burge, president of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, which conducts the sale. “The last few years, the sale has really taken off,” Burge said. “It wasn’t that long ago we cataloged 100 horses. We’ve cataloged 240 horses this year. This is all we can handle given the stabling situation at the Alameda County fairgrounds. “The sale is getting tremendous support, not just from people in the north but breeders and farms in the central and south as well. (Aug. 14, 2016) — California Chrome worked five furlongs in 1:00.20 before dawn at Los Alamitos on Sunday, his final major exercise before the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 20. Ridden by exercise rider Dihigi Gladney, California Chrome worked alone and without substantial urging. According to Los Alamitos clockers, California Chrome worked the opening quarter-mile in 24.80 seconds, went three furlongs in 36.80, and a half-mile in 48.40 seconds. Trainer Art Sherman timed California Chrome in 1:00.40. Sunday’s workout was California Chrome’s second since a win in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap on July 23. (July 9, 2016) — Art Sherman didn’t get what he wanted out of California Chrome   during his workout July 2, so he made sure he got it July 9, in the chestnut’s final drill at Los Alamitos Race Course before shipping south to Del Mar for the July 23 San Diego Handicap (gr. II). In a scheduled mile work in company, the 5-year-old son of Lucky Pulpit   broke four lengths behind stablemate Mishegas and tossed his head exiting the first turn, showing an eagerness to run. He settled into stride in the backstretch before moving up in the far turn, but was still under a tight hold from exercise rider Dihigi Gladney approaching the eighth pole, and hadn’t passed Mishegas when Sherman had enough. “Let him go!” the trainer yelled from his perch at Schwanies At The Gap, Los Alamitos’ trackside café.
